Y's Men Image Task Force Recommendations
Case to Approve Constitutional Changes from International Council 2012
At the International Council Meeting in Stavanger, Norway, the ICM unanimously passed three motions:
- To adopt the new emblem. As a guideline the motion was implemented immediately.
- To have clubs vote on the change of name of the organization to “International Association of Y Clubs”.
- To have clubs vote on including Y Community Club as another choice by which clubs can be called.
The above motions were recommended by the Image Review Task Force.
"Y Clubs International"
We ask the clubs to vote in favor of the changing from ‘International Association of Y’s Men’s Clubs’ to ‘International Association of Y Clubs’ (and hence be known as Y Clubs International) for the following reasons:
- Adoption of the motion to change the “umbrella name” of the Association will not change what Members, Clubs, Regions, and Areas call themselves.
- Adoption of the new name ‘Y Clubs International’ eliminates the sexist image in English speaking and some other areas.
- The name continues the recognition of our historic partnership with the YMCA.
- It will result in a consistent image if clubs include “Affiliated with Y Clubs International” following their club name in PR articles and formal documents.
- When the new emblem and umbrella name are incorporated on web sites using historical names, it will provide a clear, unified impression of our movement.
"Y Community Clubs"
We ask the clubs to vote in favor of including the ‘Y Community Club’ option for the following reason:
- Gives a new name option for clubs with a community basis who wish to adopt the change.
