International President
2024/25

Dear Y’s Men and Women around the world,

Every year on December 8, we come together to celebrate Founder’s Day, honouring the birth of our first International President, Judge Paul William Alexander, in 1888. This is a moment to reflect on the profound legacy of our organisation and the enduring values that have guided us for over a century.

In 1922, a group of visionary individuals came together to form what we now know as YMI. Their dream was to unite people across the world through service, fellowship, and a commitment to improving lives. Judge Alexander’s ideals remain as relevant today as they were in the early days of our movement. In his own words:

“To be a Y’s Man has never been predicated upon what a man believes, but upon what he does… The virtue of unselfish service which we insist shall be the hallmark of the Y’s Man is an exemplification of love for one’s fellow man.” — Paul William Alexander, 1951

This statement captures the heart and soul of YMI. For 102 years, we have embraced this mission, demonstrating unselfish service as the cornerstone of our identity. Our legacy is one of action—bringing hope, uplifting communities, and working tirelessly to make the world a better place.

My theme, “Arise and Shine,” and our collective slogan, “Together for a Better World,” are deeply rooted in this legacy. They remind us of our responsibility to rise to the challenges of today’s world and shine through our actions of compassion and service.

Through our partnership with the YMCA and communities, we continue to empower young people, foster sustainable development, and address the pressing needs of our communities. From small acts of kindness to large-scale initiatives, we have proven that when we come together, we can achieve remarkable things.

Founder’s Day is not just a celebration; it is a recommitment to our shared purpose. As we honour Judge Alexander and our early leaders, let us draw inspiration from their timeless values and unwavering dedication. Let us embrace innovation, build stronger collaborations, and explore new avenues to meet the challenges of our time.

As we look forward, remember that our strength lies in our unity, and our impact is amplified by our collective efforts. Together, we can continue to sow the seeds of hope, love, and compassion, nurturing a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Happy Founder’s Day!

ARISE AND SHINE! TOGETHER FOR A BETTER WORLD!

Warm regards,

A. Shanavas Khan
