Mr Erik Breum
International Treasurer – 2012-15 & 2024-
20 September 1945 – 4 February 2025 (79 years)
The International Association of Y’s Men’s Clubs is mourning the loss of International Treasurer Mr Erik Breum, who died on 4 February 2025. He was 79 years old.
Born in 1945 in Denmark, Erik spent most of his life in Sønderborg, Jutland, where he lived with his wife, Alice, and together they raised three children. His professional career was spent in public administration, serving as the Chief Executive Officer of the Sønderborg municipality, where his leadership and financial acumen were widely respected.
Erik joined the Y’s Men’s Club of Sønderborg in 1970 and dedicated over 50 years of service to our movement. He held numerous leadership positions at the club, Regional, Area and International levels, including Club President (1993/94, 2009/10, 2018/19), Regional Director (1981/82), International Council Member (2010-2012), International Treasurer (2012-2015, re-elected 2024), and Area Treasurer (2018-2024).
Erik was first elected International Treasurer in 2012, stepping into the role following the sudden passing of his predecessor. After his term ended in 2015, he continued to serve as Area Treasurer for Europe until July 2024, when he was re-elected as International Treasurer.
He approached his responsibilities with seriousness, professionalism, and integrity, always ensuring that financial matters were handled with care. His keen analytical skills, sense of fairness, and willingness to listen made him a valued colleague and advisor to many. Those who worked closely with him also knew of his warm sense of humour, which often helped ease difficult discussions.
Beyond Y’s Men International, Erik was deeply involved in community service and faith-based organisations. He served as a leader in the Boys’ Brigade (FDF), a member of the church council, and chairman of local committees dedicated to education and cultural preservation. His strong faith and belief in Christian values guided his approach to leadership and service.
Erik’s contributions to Y’s Men International will not be forgotten. His dedication, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to financial stewardship have left an indelible mark on our movement. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Alice, their children, and all those who knew and admired him.
We mourn his passing but celebrate the extraordinary legacy of leadership and service he leaves behind.
Rest in peace, IT Erik Breum.
